As summer unfolds in all its glory, if you’re one to bask in the sunshine, you’re likely gearing up for some beautiful sunny days ahead. However, the radiance of summer is only as healthy as the skin underneath it. This summer, pledge to keep your skin healthier and glowing all season long with some simple tricks.
Apply Sunscreen Like a Pro
The key to being ready for the sun is organization. So, I’ve been using this craft box to store my nail polish for about a month now, and I love it. I thought some of you might as well, so let me share how I’ve organized it.
The top of the craft box has two compartments with lift-up tops. On the left, I’ve placed all my base coats, topcoats, and similar items. I also have my small bottle of polish remover, which tends to get lost among the other removers. On the right side, I keep my glitter polishes. My daughter isn’t a big fan of glitter nail polish because it’s hard to remove, but I love it, so I put it on top, so I can always grab it first. 🙂 Both compartments close securely, and I have no trouble opening them. If I were you, I’d try not to drop the craft box, though. Ha-ha.
In the trays inside, I’ve got nail polish remover, hand lotion, moisturizer, cotton swabs (they’re in a freezer bag and red box), nail files, scissors (they’re under something else), and those little pads for nail polish removal. Beneath the trays, I’ve got all my polishes. I’ve tried organizing them by color, but when my daughter gets her hands on my nail polish, it tends not to stay that way for long. I might have to keep that one from her. 😛 I’ve also got cotton balls in there. She prefers those, and I prefer the remover pads, so I try to keep both on hand.
Healthy Habits
If you’re not healthy, your skin can’t be its healthiest. While the following aren’t necessarily summer skincare tips, if you want to see results on your skin sooner rather than later, you’ll definitely want to make these changes as soon as possible:
Quit Smoking! Smoking has a massive impact on your skin, hair, and teeth (not to mention your lungs, heart, and almost every major body system, all of which increase the risk of cancer from smoking). Smoking causes yellow stains on your hands, premature wrinkles, and dirty, weakened teeth and nails, but the sooner you quit, the sooner you’ll start to see improvements. If you struggle to quit smoking, consider trying e-cigarettes, which can reduce the impact of smoking on your hair, skin, and teeth.
Improve Your Diet. A nutrient-rich diet ensures that all your systems, including your skin, function at their best. While you need to ensure your diet is well-balanced overall, some particularly beneficial food choices for the skin include yellow and orange fruits and vegetables like apricots and carrots. Other skin-friendly foods include leafy greens, tomatoes, blueberries, legumes, peas, lentils, fatty fish like salmon, and nuts. According to the Mayo Clinic, these foods are rich in antioxidants and beneficial fats for the skin.
Take Care of Your Skin
You don’t need to visit the spa every week to pamper your skin. To care for your skin on a tight budget, follow these tips:
Moisturize Daily. You don’t need to use high-end products. Any regular moisturizer will do the trick, but we recommend Nivea Soft. It prevents your skin from drying out in warm weather and helps your skin feel healthy and youthful. Apply it to dry areas, avoiding greasy places like some people’s noses and mouths.
Another excellent option is to use coconut oil, but remember: a little goes a long way!
Make Your Own Body Scrub. Body scrubs are great for exfoliation, but avoid products with beads. They’re not only unnecessarily expensive but also extremely harmful to the environment, as they fill water systems with non-biodegradable beads. Instead, you can make your own exfoliator with simple ingredients like coconut oil, vanilla, and brown sugar. They also make great gifts! You can also try old beauty secrets like adding a few drops of olive oil to your bathwater, but be careful, as it can make the shower floor slippery.
And don’t forget to prep your skin! This doesn’t mean you have to invest a ton of cash. Check out some of the best home microdermabrasion machine reviews here for ideas.
Like any other healthy endeavor, keeping your skin healthy is a commitment. But it doesn’t necessarily have to be difficult. By making these simple and inexpensive lifestyle adjustments, you’ll have healthier skin by the end of the season!
