When two countercultural icons unite, the result is a striking blend of style and craftsmanship that’s impossible to ignore. This is exactly what happens when Dr. Martens and The Great Frog, both pillars of the alternative fashion scene, collaborate. The creative directors of these brands describe the result as “premium” and “hard.”
This new collection, their second collaboration, is a significant upgrade from the previous one released in 2022, which featured more subtle TGF elements. The current collection, featuring a bold interpretation of the 1460 boot, monk strap Ramsey creepers, and a 7-inch Mini Satchel, offers something for everyone.
The footwear is crafted with smooth black leather and all-natural hair on vamps, adorned with debossed chain motifs and equestrian-style silver buckles. McKoy highlights the 1460 boot as the cornerstone of Dr. Martens, saying, “The material execution and blending of the two brands make total sense. It’s at the epicenter of the range.” Lehtonen-Riley reflects on the creepers, noting their versatility: “As a man who struggles with dressing smartly, these creepers work with jeans, suits, or even shorts. They can be worn day or night and still look tough.”
The leather satchel stands out with tiny skull rivets on both side panels, debossed chain borders, and silver clasps, making it a favorite of Lehtonen-Riley. He expresses pride in the satchel’s detailed craftsmanship, noting that all the buckles were hand-carved by him.
Both brands share a heritage rooted in British rock ‘n’ roll and the DIY punk aesthetic, which is evident in the campaign’s imagery. Featuring singer-songwriter Florence Rose, stylist and visual artist Beau Tiger Rae, and model Mars Chen, the campaign captures the energy of an underground party. McKoy praises the campaign for recontextualizing the alternative look and feel for today, emphasizing the natural connection between both brands and their audiences.
