The fashion world continues its game of musical chairs as it was announced today that Peter Hawkings is stepping down as the creative director of Tom Ford.
After presenting just two collections under the Tom Ford label, Hawkings is leaving the brand. Hawkings, who worked alongside Tom Ford for 25 years, started during Ford’s tenure at Gucci and continued through the establishment of Ford’s own label. Hawkings had been serving as senior vice president of menswear at Tom Ford since 2013 before being appointed as creative director last April. He was the first to lead the brand following its acquisition by Estée Lauder for approximately $2.8 billion.
“I want to thank Peter for his outstanding contributions to Tom Ford from the very start,” stated Guillaume Jesel, president and CEO of Tom Ford and luxury business development at Estée Lauder Companies.
It is believed that the Zegna group, which holds a 20-year license agreement to produce Tom Ford Fashion, intends to focus on expanding the brand’s womenswear division. The name of the next creative director has yet to be revealed.
