Paris has been infused with a touch of whimsy, thanks to Roger Vivier. Known for its shoes and handbags, the brand showcased Gherardo Felloni’s unique take on couture during the Fall/Winter 2024 haute couture shows. The collection, titled Pièce Unique in its third iteration, aptly named Petites Merveilles, transformed the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré boutique into a breathtaking natural museum.
Entering the space feels like stepping into a magical forest. Velvet walls adorned with gilded insects set the tone for a collection that is as captivating as it is distinctive. Mannequins showcase bejeweled gilets, while handbags rest in display cases, evoking a sense of wonder and exploration. Petites Merveilles playfully nods to the insect world, merging nature’s beauty with intricate craftsmanship. These are not ordinary fashion accessories; they are vibrant creations meticulously crafted, each inspired by elements of its namesake creature, such as the iridescence of scarab beetles, butterfly wings, or white feathers, reimagined into unique designs.
The collection includes 15 one-of-a-kind handbags and 4 encrusted gilets, each telling a unique story. The journey spans from vast deserts to lush forests, taking you on a mini-adventure through nature’s most stunning landscapes. Crystals and bugle beading add sparkle, while clusters of insects introduce natural elegance. Red beetles gleam on scarlet satin, golden fireflies emerge from dark skies, and metallic spiderwebs shimmer with crystals. Beyond the visual appeal, the collection highlights the exceptional skill of the Roger Vivier ateliers. Techniques such as feather quilting, embroidery, metalwork, and jewelry making are expertly displayed, resulting in designs that are as detailed as they are imaginative. Bees and their hives are brought to life with topaz jewels, while scorpions introduce an element of darkness and danger through dazzling rhinestones.
